Snohomish County Jail inmate, age 27, dies after head injury.

Snohomish County Jail inmate, age 27, dies after head injury.
Some questions stand as to the handling, of the medical attention and treatment of kin.

Lindsey Lason was no longer being held when her cousin came into the jail visiting area to inquire of Lindsey’s well being. That was all Jail representatives had to offer when asked about Lindsey. After not hearing from Lindsey after a few days, her cousin came into the Snohomish County Jail to inquire. Instead of being met by a grief counselor, or a superior jail official, she was greeted with threats of her own arrest and detention.

The Herald had announced the investigation into the death of a 27 year old female. The name was with held, most likely pending the contact of the next of kin. However the Snohomish county jail had no problems de-humanizing the person by announcing that the inmate was being held for prostitution and possession of a controlled substance.  It was not until three days later that jail officials had released Lindsey’s name, her charges, and that the cause of death was still being investigated.

Prior to the release of her name the story among the people that knew Lindsey seemed  full of unknowns, and pointed to sheer neglect on the county’s part. The story claims that she had fell out of bed while sleeping on the top bunk. Lindsey had suffered a head injury. I am also being told that she had a history of seizures. The initial story claimed no knowledge of her receiving medical attention. The cell mate of Lindsey had claimed that Lindsey complained of serious head pain, but was told to sleep it off. Over the years of raising four children, riding motorbikes, horses and just plain being a boy, even I know that anyone suffering a head injury is at risk of a concussion. I even know that a person suffering a head injury should be observed and kept awake for a minimum of two hours. Symptoms such as nausea and vomiting are serious signs of a life threatening concussion that require an immediate trip to the emergency room. Regardless of request for medical attention the woman was found dead as she had died an un-timely death before morning.

(New Details)After a week the Herald still reported that Lindsey’s death was under investigation and now the story includes a trip to the jail’s medical wing. Lindsey was moved to the triage floor of the facility.

This is where I become opinionated.

The behavior of the Snohomish County jail seems guilty.
Just as a shoplifter justifies stealing from a big store, the county had justified the inmates death by pointing out the charges.

Just as a criminal reserves the right to remain silent, so too did the County jail reserve their right to minimize any and all details.

Just as a criminal threatens to bully a store employee when asked about the items they stole; Snohomish County offered Lindsey’s cousin a criminal charge and a trip to jail herself, instead of asking her to wait while they retrieved a superior officer, or even a grief counselor to ease the pain.

There is no doubt in my mind Snohomish county is guilty of neglect at the very least. I am fully aware that jail is jail, and it does not require that a person’s stay is pleasant. I also know that no matter how many times a woman rents herself ,or uses a controlled substance, it does not constitute the death penalty. Lindsey was given a punishment that fit within guidelines set forth by the people of Washington State. The mind set that allows us to de-humanize a prostitute, or drug addict has allowed the employees of Snohomish County to deny a person. A person incarcerated or not, deserves the right to live and the right to die with dignity. The crimes that Lindsey had been charged with are the type of which a person can right. Lindsey could have served her time and evolved to be a person of righteousness. We will never know. If the investigation does show a fault in the actions of the jail, it would also be safe to say that Lindsey had suffered a cruel and unusual punishment. Her nine year old son will never see any change in his mother. Never know if her prayers would be answered. No longer can we call it a correctional facility if in fact they are no longer correcting, but instead erasing.  Maybe the logo should now say Snohomish County Erasing instead of Snohomish County Corrections.

  1. Lyndz is a friend was my friend and will be missed very very much! She was so much fun to be around. She and my girlfriend acted goofy dancing and singing around my kitchen, at three in the morning. The three of us spent alot of time with each-other the past few years including Christmas, Newyears, and her 27th birthday. I remember her talking on the phone to her boy JuJu who she spoke so proud of. I was so sad as i read the report written by the county. The way they described my friend sounded as if she had gotten what she had deserved. They spoke of her as if she wasn't a human,a mother ,a sister ,a daughter and friend. The county should have been more concerned. All they did was neglect to care for her at a time when she was their responsibility! She was not able to get up and take her self to get the care that was so needed to save her life. The county should be ashamed of there lack of concern for the safty of there inmates whom they deem responsible for the minute there freedom is removed. I mean thank gosh she was not any of their relatives right!? Im so scared for anyone who may not be perfect or earn a stay in the county jail of Snohomish WA. I say keep in contact with someone on the outside and hope you never are in need of medical attention while there! I guess u could say they may have commited murder! That is how it would be the other way around!!!

  2. i was there. she was in cell 13 i was in cell 7. i was booked in oct 18th. the whole thing is and was devestaingly sad. i still havent delt with that. i knew lindsey in & on the outs. she was so bubbly and very expressional. county sucks a fat one. and they treat us as if we r beneath them and are completly garbage. i was the first 1 to talk to her when she was booked in. she was fine. then quickly turn for the worse. she requested medical care so much. they ignored her, saying she was withdrawing but those of us who know about addiction and withdrawling could ovbiously see she needed medical treatment. the staff got so tired of her asking for help that they sent her to E-1 guess what e-1 is not medical care it is the place u go when u screw up and or have some mental issues. they brought her back. the next day i was behind her in med line and the nurse that was on told her she didnt need any medications or an xray but what she needed was to chill out. lindseys short and shallow breaths she said where all in her head and self inflicted. lindsey was in tears begging for medical.please take me to the hospital. please. she was sent to her cell followed by a 4 hour lockdown as punishment. the night before she died she was begging every one please take me to hospital. she was white as a ghost and so so very weak. the next morning at am med line i was reciving my meds and she was being paged to come out for meds. over and over. the gaurd was yelling at her. finally he got up and walked over to her cell and the nurse said to me shes probably faking once again, they'll never learn. then the gaurd was pounding her cell door to awake her opened it and requested the nurse to come over, she was pronounced dead and the modual E-2 was in a lock down status all day. i understand why they couldndt tell us what happened. i saw her wheeled out in a body bag. she may of had a condition b4 she was booked in jail but she died of medical neglect. that nurse that over and over refused her medical attention is a different kind to say that nicely. i
ve never had any problems with her. each and every time i enter sno co jail she is on top of my medications and i only wait a day or to for them to be filled however i was a fav. this nurse treated 90% of inmates very bad. i wish lindsey had been in the 10% that i fell in to.

  4. Well i am also knew Lindsey and was in jail with her once last year. But i did know her on the Outs and she was so happy and she really wanted to do good and she loved her son and husband. She wasn't perfect by all means or was she what society called a Good American Tax payer, But she was a MOM, Friend, WIFE, DAUGHTER, COUSIN, & WOMAN WHO DESERVED TO LIVE AND BE TREATED LIKE A NORMAL PERSON AND TO RECIEVE AT THE LEAST GET MEDICAL ATTENTION!!!!!! This is a HUGE TRAGITY and I feel so BAD for her and wished i could have helped her, I went to medical school and what she was going through was clearly a punchured lung, by the weezing and her back hurting and she was getting weak from the loss of blood into her body and not getting enough oxygen. This all started from her getting her back popped. And i know exactly know how she was treated because i have been treated just as bad and almost died myself under there care. But once my heart rate was about flat lined i got woken up by a nurse and brought to the "Doctor" from Medical Housing and what happened is i was perscribed methadone and was dependant on them and so they told me in booking that i will not recieve my perscription and that they dont have that medication there anyways, so they put me in medical and while you are there you get checked on and the nurses come and take you "vitals" 2-5 times a day so thats the only reason that they helped me they wouldnt believe me that i was having issues so i had been laying not able to drink or walk and i was disoriented and foggy headed. So to shorten this up i had to almost "DIE" to get help and then when i got up there to the doctor she asked what i needed and i said Methadone is perscribed to me and she left the room and came back to the room and had methadone pills the same ones i take. Which really upset me that they made me go through that and lied to me saying that they dont carry those there at all anyways. So they are liars and Murders and the nurse and the whole jail should get into huse trouble and go to jail and be sewed and they should get what anyone else would get for murder, especially the people who were directly involved and denied medical services and help or a trip to the hospital which they do do there they just didnt feel like it. So to Lindsey and her family.....I am so sorry and i send my biggest remorse and support and if there is anything i could do for her family i will.email me at adensmore2010@yahoo.com... Lindsey R.I.P you are an Angel and i know you are watching over all your loved ones now and i know you will never get treated like this ever again. I lOVE YOU GIRL!!!!! You really changed my life meeting you and i really think about you alot and it hurts inside since i heard of this tragedy (MURDER) Snohomish County Jail are Murders!!!!!! You will always have a place in my heart. I always remember you waking up on the couch when you were staying at your friends house and all the love and cheerfulness you spread around the jail when you were there with me.

    Love Always, Amanda

  5. I just found out about this. I knew Lindsey back when she was a 6th grader beating the hell out of fellow students. I then saw her years later on a local news channel covering prostitution . I was dismayed. Afterwards, I hoped that the abyss she was in, would soon become a faded nightmare. This was not to be. I wrote The jail a couple years ago asking about medical care, and treatment for Withdrawls in regards of an adult

child becoming incarcerated there. I was given every
assurance the person would be safe, and given Aadequate medical care. I see now my fears were well
founded. I am furious that the county jail saw fit to
release her booking offense as if she deserved her
death. I am furious her cousin was threatened into
silence and submission for asking about lindsey. I am
absolutely heartbroken for her child , for what could have
been, and now has to deal with his mother being vilified
for the jails horrible neglect. Jail does not mean to strip a
person of dignity or hope or help. It should never allow
persons of authority to demean or dehumanize inmates,
but should offer help and resources in gaining " good
citizenship". A sense of worth. To fix a wrong. To get to the bottom of "why" of the behavior.Right now,
this very moment, there is a person incarcerated with schizophrenia that they refuse to treat . I know this person. I know the history, and the slow desent into hell, with the criminal activity. It is truly maddening with the medical neglect. I am sorry that Linsey suffered and died without dignity. All of this was preventable.

  7. This is so wrong. I cant see how this officials sleep at night. I am going through something similar with my husband in there right now.The jail is refusing to give him his heart meds because they are saying his name is not his name and when the meds came they sent them back saying they had no one there by that name. He has several forms of legal id with his name on them. He changed his birth name LEGALLY years ago. Why is this jail so faulty? How are they being allowed to let people die?!!

  8. I have done several stories about the numerous deaths at the Snohomish County jail & it has always made me sad. I was in jail when Lyndsey was in there for being 8 minutes late for court. She has haunted my dreams. I would like your permission to link up this story with all of mine so that people can see something about her. Most of the 6 inmates that have died lately have been vilified to the point of looking like human trash & that is the way the media & officials intend for it to be.

  17. The best way to score points is to clear
multiple lines with one block placement. Learning new things are always better for the brains both for the young people as well as for the adults.
Players were topping out very early and the whole tournament seemed to pass in the blink of an eye.
The more pathways that exist, the better able we
are to come up with solutions to problems faster. With this great
popularity, one can wonder how this game became so popular.
